Allistic douchefucks flapping their gums about how autism is *sooooo* bad, and how if we could just find a cure then maybe people like me could live “normal” lives BUT REALLY…IT’S ALL ABOUT THE FAMILIES!

HOW TRUE
I really wish we could lose the whole “the ignorant asshole MUST always be portrayed as fat!” ideology. :\
Yeah, and the classist and ableist implications of this meme are pretty gross too. Living on disability does not make someone ignorant. Neither do weighing 500 pounds, or being an alcoholic, or being poor.
I don’t think it’s occurred to most people that if attention seekers were actually getting attention at home, they wouldn’t be seeking it.
People are just so quick to assume that attention seekers consider their behavior some sort of game. And maybe they do, superficially.
But when someone engages in attention-seeking behavior, it’s almost always a cry for help.
Nobody seeks help from strangers unless they’re desperate. Attention seekers are desperate for validation of their own worth, but also of their feelings about themselves (which, by the way, are overwhelmingly negative).
TW for mention of suicide, suicidal thoughts, self-harm
There are a few different types of attention seekers (I made up the names, but these are the main categories I observe):
Confrontational: Will make offensive remarks on sensitive issues in order to draw negative attention.
Projecting: Will project extremely negative thoughts onto vulnerable, internalizing others. They usually do this anonymously, but will sometimes make confrontational posts in their spare time.
Internalizing: Publishes self-loathing posts, often based on bullying from projectors.
Visual: Uses graphic images of self-harm to draw attention.
Para-suicidal/Suicidal: Probably the most severe form of attention seeking. These individuals will post suicidal threats, and will occasionally attempt to carry out the act. I’ve seen some cases where people have updated each stage of their suicidal attempts. Any suicidal threat must be taken seriously. Tips for dealing with suicidal individuals can be found here: http://samaritanshope.org/index.php/suicide-info.html
Attention seeking is serious behavior, and is a sign of deep emotional pain. It’s easy to dismiss attention seekers as “annoying”, and sometimes it’s best to ignore them. But try to have empathy.
And this is coming from someone who has struggled with self harm, just so you know.
What about people who are seeking attention because they feel that no one in their real lives care enough? I agree, it’s annoying (at the very least; it’s more triggery than annoying), but what these people are hearing at home, at school, around friends, and online is “your problems are bad, but please don’t bother me with them.”
I remember at school when I mentioned my suicidal thoughts to a counselor. They didn’t ask me to elaborate, or ask me why I was feeling that way. They sent me to lie down and told me that they would have to put my statements on record, and that I wouldn’t be able to return to school until it was ok’d by a therapist. They shirked their responsibility, plain and simple.
Now, imagine the desperation of someone who posts pictures of their cutting online. How many times do you think they’ve had the buck passed on them? How many times do you think they’ve been called “attention whores”, or “emo”, or been told that they’re faking it? These are people who feel worthless, and what’s worse, they feel as though they can’t share their problems with those closest to them. So the pictures go online, in hopes that someone will give them attention, be it positive or negative, personally or behind a gray face.
This is attention seeking. This is the only kind of attention these people are likely to get. So please, don’t be assholes about it.
Minty fresh posts: [WARNING: ARSON, MISOGYNIST VIOLENCE] just received this from a friend: new orleans women with a vision office destroyed... →

So I keep seeing this shitty picture saying that the natural hair of black people is like “cancer”.
If I were able, I’d probably say this much more eloquently, but I can’t, so….

You can’t go around telling people that the way their body, their face, or their hair ARE are wrong. Hair is not like cancer. Hair is hair. And if you’re suggesting that someone’s hair is like a malignant genetic mutation and must be controlled and eradicated, that’s more than just racism and ignorance at work. That is white supremacy. That is imposing your narrow-minded, white worldview on someone else’s personal choices without even bothering to consider that they’ve experienced anything different than you. There’s a word for that:
WRONG.
(Disclaimer)
If anyone feels that I am wrongly inserting myself into something that is none of my business, let me know and I will shut up.
Drawing white people is really fucking hard.
No skin tone variation. None.
If you ask a Curefan what their favourite band is….
Well that’s a pretty awful question, isn’t it?

I mean, it should be obvious.

We’re done with you now. You and your dumb questions.

Fucking hell why am I so fucking happy?!
It’s like I’m totally bubbling over with happy thoughts and shit and it’s taking me twice as long to type things because I feel the need to spell everything perfectly and I can’t
